SPINE ANATOMY
The spine consists of 33 vertebrae divided into 5 sections: 12 thoracic, 7 cervical, 5 lumbar, 5 sacral, and 4 coccygeal.
The vertebra consists of a body and an arch that together limit the spinal canal through which the spinal cord passes. Between the vertebral bodies are discs that serve to absorb movement and pressure.
Facet joints of the spine are located between the vertebral arches.
Ligaments also contribute to the stability of the spine.
Back pain is one of the most common complaints that our patients present with.
The causes of pain can vary: ligaments, muscles, joints, bones, blood vessels, nerves, and discs.
